Kia Manawanui - Team building activities

Kia Manawanui - Team building activities

Last week the Kia Manawanui syndicate had a team building week. We did so many fun activities such as...Going to the YMCA pools, zumba, playing outside and many more other actives.

Earlier on last week we had a attitude program going on. We were talking about friends ships. We talked about how you can make friends, how to be a good friend and how to lose friends which isn't a good idea.

Straight after we finished technology we went to the YMCA pools. We did many fun activities that involved team work. It was fun getting into groups and competing with other groups. I enjoyed going to the pools because I got to make positive relationships with my peers and have a good time with my friends.

When we got back to school it was around 3:00pm so we waited then everyone went home. When people started arriving we all just started playing games. I had heaps of fun playing rugby and touch with my peers because I like being active and playing sports is one of my hobbies.

When everyone arrived we had to go inside, Miss Aireen told us how the day was planned. After a while we were put back into the groups we were in for the pools and had to come up with a group name, chant and role play that had to involve a speech we were given to add into our role play.

After that we had a break so the adults could get the dinner prepared. I played rugby and touch with my peers.

We were all called to come inside so we can have something to eat. We sang "Happy Birthday" to Raymond's dad because it was his birthday on that day. There was so much food and all of it look delicious. I only ate chicken and chips, and got me a drink of the juice. When everyone finished eating we packed up and had a dance off.

On friday morning we did zumba, we danced to a few songs. I had fun because I was dancing with my friends.

What did you enjoy?
I enjoyed everything but I mostly enjoy playing sports outside because I got to communicate with others and it was very fun hanging out with my friends.

What did you learn?
I learnt that I can make positive friendships with others and I learnt that it is good to hang out with people you don't usually hang out with because your showing the value of whanaungatanga - building positive relationships.

What do you need to work on?
Something I think I need to work on is participating in group discussions.

I hope you have enjoyed reading my work!

Who Am I

Today we learnt about who we are, with Toni. Toni is the son of one of our teachers at our school.

Toni was telling us stories about himself. He talked to us about our genes, environment & our choices. He told us that our choices could be more stronger then our environment and our genes.

Before morning tea we got split up into 2 groups, half of the class went with Toni & Mr.Jay and the other half went with Ms. Aireen & Kelly. I was with Ms.Aireen, we learnt how to do a high standard blog because some of us weren't doing that.

After morning tea the 2 classes swapped, I was in room 9 with Toni & Mr.Jay. We played a game called "stand up if", then we were given books to write in. 3 of the kids in the class read a paragraph each from the book. After that we went to page 15, it was called "Personality types", there were 4 different types of personalities on the page but there are heaps more others.

The different types of personalities were Lion (If I call you a Lion, I'm not talking about your meaty breath. I mean you are a leader and are brave, Otter (Some of you are more like otters, you like hanging out in big groups and are full of energy, Beavers (If you are hard-working and are great at getting tasks done, you might be a beaver & last but not least Golden Retriever (Golden retrievers are very caring and love helping people.

We had to tick the box if we can relate to that. For the lion I got 5/18, for otter I got 14/18, for beaver I got 4/18 and last I got 10/18 for golden retriever. So because I got more ticks for otter I am a otter.

We also played games in between the talks because we get bored fast and so it isn't boring.

Something I learnt today was that I am a otter and that there are heaps more different personalities. A otter is a personality that kinda represents who I am. A otter is someone who is funny, an likes to joke around alot, they are also people who don't really get their work done that much because they talk to much.

Class Treaty/P.E/Music

This morning the Kia Manawanui syndicate came up with a class treaty. We got put into groups and had to come up with ideas. I was put into a group with Fea'o, Manaia, Coralee & Deniro.

After morning tea we went outside and did p.e and music. Half of the class went to do p.e and the other half did music. I did p.e first, for p.e we were practising our skills for soft ball. We practised throwing the softball to each other short distance and long distance we also had a few games. After a while the people that were in music came out and swapped with the people that were playing softball.

In music we talked about what a bass was in music, a bass is a steady pulse that can go fast and slow. After we learnt about a bass we had to get a chair and drum sticks, we learnt how to play the drums but because there was only one drum set we had to use what we were given. I did struggle to play drums because I'm not really a person that plays instruments, I like to play sports. But I did give it ago and I was no bad, my friend Grace was sitting beside me and she was very good at it. When our time was up we had to come back up to class.
